This is probably one of the most influential videos I’ve produced. I found this on my old friend Dr. David Miyashiro’s Youtube channel.
Back at Richman School we had been using the AR program for over a year, but with an overemphasis on points (the volume of reading/quizzes taken metric). This was leading to all kinds of ineffective implementation. Renaissance Learning’s research shows that students have to maintain an accuracy (“Percent”) above 85% on AR tests that are in their ZPD (“Level”) in order to help them achieve a year of reading growth per year. When we first started monitoring students achieving in all three areas there were 9 students in the whole school. Over the next three years these numbers increased many times over. The final marking period of that year showed we had 160 achievers! We showed this video on our school on-campus broadcast system and slowly students (and teachers) began to understand how to implement AR more effectively.
This video was not made for commercial purposes, I show it here simply as an example of some of my prior work already available on the Internet.
