According to this video, it only takes 95 seconds… or it could take someone weeks of research, ordering, and practice to know what to order and how to set it up to work well… This particular studio took about a day and a half before I started training the staff on how to use it…
Most of my revenue comes from making videos for entrepreneurs, small businesses, and other organizations, but I had put together a couple of video production classes/broadcast studios when I was a tech teacher in the public elementary schools. In fact, building up those daily broadcasts was my favorite thing to do.
Could I leverage this experience for my new business? In September 2013, I pitched a studio set up proposal to a school in nearby Cardiff-by-the-Sea, CA. They wanted a chroma key studio using an online distribution method. I put together a webcast studio proposal that would cover the bases, but not break the bank.
When we got the email that they had decided to move forward on the plan, there was a little whoopin’ and hollerin’ around the Rosa house!
After the equipment purchasing process was complete, I went down and set up their studio. I threw together the little time elapsed video of the process you see above. That particular studio took about a day and a half to set up with a half day training for the staff who would be overseeing/implementing its use. The Cardiff-by-the-Sea people were great work with in so many ways!
Since then interest in this system has grown. It is starting to become a more significant part of my business. I’m working on refining the purchasing process, improving the design, and diversifying the plans to accommodate a Windows head end computer option in addition to the Mac-based solution I used initially. I foresee this kind of system being useful not only to schools but to small businesses and entrepreneurs who want an affordable, turnkey solution for incorporating DIY video into their web presence.
If you are interested in a system like this, see my Studios page.
