I had the opportunity to shoot and edit a music video for Madison Lea Scott in the last couple of months. Madison is an aspiring pianist/singer/composer who has just released two albums on her website. One album is a mix of traditional and original Christian worship music, and the other is Hawaiian music.
This was a chance for me to film in a beautiful outdoor setting: the California central coast near Cambria. A music video was a new challenge for me. They aren’t something I’ve done much of (I can’t think of any from the hundreds of projects I’ve worked on), so I went in somewhat over-prepared and shot plenty of alternate footage. This worked out well, as a couple of my planned shots just didn’t work, and some of the alternates turned out very nicely. Finally, I enjoyed getting to know the Scott family much better as we prepped, filmed, broke bread, reviewed, filmed, rested, and filmed some more. What warm, welcoming, genuine people!
Madison enjoys ‘mashing up’ different musical styles and composers to figure out new sounds. Her passion for music shows in her talent on the keyboard and in her voice. I’m grateful I got to be a part of making this video. My favorite memories are the moments between takes when Maddie would just play around on the piano with different songs and styles… Her musical gifting runs deep.
Here are some of my favorite songs on her albums:
A relaxed jazzy version of This is My Father’s World and an accapella version of Nothing but the Blood with back up singers in harmony.
Hawaiian with Doo Wop style Ho’ Onani Ia Ke Ali’i and one with accapella back up singers Makee ‘Ailana
Please check out her English website, her Hawaiian website, and if it touches you, of course, like her video, and buy her music.
