Entrepreneurism in Schools Using Tech and Project-based Learning

I got to see some neat examples of entrepreneurism at the Orange County CUE Tech Fest last weekend. I’ll list my three favorite examples here:

1. The First LEGO League (FLL) team group 4th or fifth graders who had designed LEGOs robots to compete in a robotics competition that LEGO organizers every year. These students were very enthusiastic and even though they were young try their best and did a pretty good job of explaining the competition.

OCCUE Tech Fest Imperial Middle School project-based learning2. There was the middle school chemistry class who designed a series of organic cosmetics such as bath salts using all natural substances. They had to develop marketing materials and the business plan. Their teacher arranged for them to pitch to actual cosmetics company reps in a “Shark-Tank style setting. Their teacher required that hey incorporate at least one”Core” subject area before they could be considered done project.

3. Finally my attention was drawn to the 3-D printer teams who go through the process of proposing a problem to solve, designing a solution. Testing the solution, and then testing their solution in the actual marketplace.
3D PrinterOverall, these great examples of project-based learning, Hands-on technology application to learning and Business exciting for me to watch. I think we need to stir up entrepreneurism among the children.
